Soft Pastels and Charcoal

The aim of the course is to give you a grounding in the basic principles of using soft pastels and charcoal. Using a selection of visual resources; pictorial and real objects you will explore tonal values, colour, composition and a variety of techniques to blend, layer and create texture. You will learn how to engage with and respond to the work of other artists., , By the end of this course, you should be able to:, - Draw objects in charcoal, depicting 3D effects and mood with tonal values, - Use colour tonally, mix and blend colour to create layered 3D images, - Explore mark making to produce textural effects, - Explore composition with background and foreground., , There is no set 'homework', but you are welcome to practise and do further work at home., There is no qualification for this course., , There is limited parking on site, but there is a public car park nearby and on-street parking. Those who are interested in learning to draw in charcoal and soft pastels. It is also for learners who have some experience and wish to extend their art practice in these areas.
