This Printmaking course has a structured but relaxed learning plan which will identify your individual needs to help you reach your goals as you continue to practise and develop skills. You will work from observation and imagination including keeping a sketchbook. The aim of the course is to help you discover the joy of printmaking and for the more experienced to explore new ways of approaching their work. There is an opportunity to make zinc etching plates and explore various ways of printing the intaglio image. It is suitable for anyone who is prepared for a messy but creative process. , By the end of the course you will be able to:, Demonstrate how to prepare and ground an etching plate, Demonstrate using the safety procedures shown by the tutor how to use the etching acids and printing presses, Illustrate how to produce a line etching using specialised tools and equipment, Demonstrate how to ink and wipe a plate and produce a finished print, For more advanced students demonstrate the technique of aquatinting , Be aware of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines, Beginners or the more experienced or anyone wishing to transform their own work into an etching or print, , It is important to note that Art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity. If you need to bring a carer with you, or be accompanied by another adult please ask to speak to the Programme Manager before you enrol.

If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, you should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils. Etching plates and inks vary in cost according to the size of the plate and amount of inks used, if using aquatint there will be a cost for the gas used.If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.
