Soft Furnishings

This is an exciting and informative course covering all aspects of soft furnishing. You will learn how to make lined or interlined curtains with purchased or hand made headings, blinds, cushions, bed covers, loose covers and lampshades. You will also learn how to choose the most suitable designs and fabrics, and how to measure and estimate fabric requirements. Students will be encouraged to work at home in order to progress quickly onto new projects and broaden their knowledge and skills., , By the end of this course you should be able to:, Use hand and machine sewing techniques as required., Measure, calculate and cut fabric requirements for your projects., Use colour and design awareness to select and work with appropriate fabrics., Work to health and safety guidelines., , There is no set 'homework', but to get the most out of the course, you are welcome to do further work at home. All levels of experience in sewing. Beginners are welcome. It is important to note that craft courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.

You will also need a folder for notes and handouts, a 1m length of fabric for sample making (lining, interlining and headings can be purchased from the tutor), fabric threads and specialist tools as required. The cost of materials for projects also needs to be considered; some of which you may be able to purchase from the tutor.
