A drawing and painting course to get you started or develop your skills. Using a variety of drawing and painting media and materials, e.g. pencil, charcoal, ink, watercolour, acrylic, you will explore a range of techniques, and will gain confidence in using the formal elements - line, tone, colour, texture and composition. By working from both direct observation and from photographic references and sketches, you will encounter a variety of interesting and stimulating subject matter - landscape, still life, natural forms, etc. Reference will also be made to the work of other artists as appropriate., , By the end of this course you should be able to:, , Work from a variety of primary and secondary subject matter., Produce paintings and drawings that demonstrate a basic awareness of the formal elements., Select and use the appropriate painting media, materials and equipment., Mix colours using basic colour theory., Recognise the painting styles and techniques of selected fine artists., Work to health and safety guidelines., , Sessions are on 3 and 17 Oct,7 and 21 Nov,5 Dec., Beginners or those with a little experience. It is important to note that art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.

Entry requirements

If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils. You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. Some of our centres have their own 'shops' where you are able to buy things at competitive prices.If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.
