Walking is at its most enjoyable when we feel confident that we know where we are and, just as important, where we are going. Confident navigation involves the ability to orientate and interpret a map correctly. You will be studying with our partner Contours and Cairns who have many years experience in navigating the great outdoors both at home and abroad. Their website is www.contoursandcairns.co.uk. , The course is run over two consecutive days, Sat 26th and Sun 27th March 2016. There are six hours of tuition per day plus an hour for lunch., On successful completion of the course you will receive the National Navigation Award Scheme Bronze Navigator Award and a certificate. The NNAS is recognized by Mountain Training, British Orienteering, The Royal Institute of Navigation, and Sports Leaders UK. NNAS was founded in 1994 and is a nationally recognized award which can prepare you for training and assessment for the Walking Group and Mountain Leader qualifications through MLT UK., One couple said We both felt the course was pitched perfectly for us ... It really couldn't have been better for us., At the end of the course you should be able to:, • Use an orientated map to identify and maintain position, • Estimate and plan the time needed to walk a particular distance, • Identify ground features on the map by use of contour lines, • Follow key linear features using a compass to reach a particular location, , All necessary study will take place within course hours.
