Portraiture - Beginners

This portraiture - beginners course will introduce you to the process of portraiture through a variety of mediums including pencil, pastel, acrylic and oil paints. Working from both photographic references and life models, you will explore how to approach proportions, tone, light, form and colour. Each project is based on a particular technique, subject matter or a style/genre of artwork. This will include looking at historical, modern, contemporary and global artwork. Tuition is on an individual basis with relevant demonstrations to improve your drawing and painting skills. Students who have have an interest in creating a likeness in paint., It is important to note that art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity for you to participate fully and get the most out of the course.

Entry requirements

If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, you should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils.You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.
