The course is intended to give an overview of how to use the functions and features of a Single Lens Reflex (SLR) camera to your creative advantage. You will also learn how use Photoshop Elements software to make basic picture adjustments, retouching, and how to print more successfully. , Topics covered Aperture; Shutter speeds; ISO; Lenses; Depth of field; Perspective; Exposure; Composition; On camera flash; and focusing. Also Levels, colour correction; red eye reduction; sharpening; selections; clone stamp; healing brush; and colour management., You will be able to use these functions to better create the aesthetic effect you want, rather than rely on the camera's automatic functions deciding what your photo will look like., By the end of the course you should be able to :-, Successfully demonstrate the use of the main functions and modes of an SLR Camera, Be able to set the aperture to enable the wanted depth of field in a photo, Be able to set shutter speed to enable the wanted degree of blur or stillness in a photo, Be able to gauge and set appropriate camera settings to give the required exposure in photo, , The course is aimed at those who own an SLR camera and are new to, or had limited experience in photography, but are serious to learn how to take control of a Digital SLR camera themselves to get what they want in a picture., It is ideal for those who want to become more technically creatively and accurate in their photography, by modification of photographic images., Any experience of photography or software similar to Photoshop Elements will be useful, but not necessary.,

Entry requirements

You NEED to have a CAMERA, preferably an SLR type camera, or similar, with functions that will allow setting of aperture, shutter, ISO, Manual focusing, white balance, and varied exposure modes. It can be a film or digital SLR camera., You NEED to have a good working knowledge of using a Windows or Apple Mac PC, with Windows or Mac Operating system. , A pen and paper to take appropriate notes. A folder or file to keep notes and handouts. Perhaps some of your own photos to show. , Use of a PC away from the college with image manipulation software of some kind installed is useful, but not necessary.
