Botanical Illustration - Improvers

This is an intermediate level Botanical Illustration course in Sevenoaks (not for beginners ) The focus is upon the development of drawing and watercolour painting applied to the careful observation of plants. Students will benefit from the warmly supportive atmosphere., By the end of the course students should be able to :-, Demonstrate an understanding of patterns in plant growth and employ strategies to portray it visually , • Be able to use a wide range of tonal values, • Show some understanding of the technical process of mixing and matching colour , • Demonstrate an ability to use a range of watercolour techniques, including laying washes and wet on dry, • Critically analyse own and each other's work during group critiques, • Demonstrate an ability to use a range of techniques to accurately measure and scale drawings, Students who are interested in Botanical Drawing and Painting and who have completed an Intermediate course or have the equivalent experience.It is important to note that art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.

Entry requirements

If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils.You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. Some of our centres have their own 'shops' where you are able to buy things at competitive prices.If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.
