Clothesmaking - Short Course

Learn modern methods for fashionable and successful clothes making for beginners and improvers. This course is designed to show you high quality up to date construction methods used in the Clothing industry giving your clothes a modern, shop bought look. You will be able to work on your own project, at your own pace. Your project can be anything from tailoring and coats to skirts, trousers, children's wear, fleeces or evening wear. The tutor will cover all the processes needed to complete the project. These will include choice of pattern and fabric, basic pattern alterations, basic fitting, advice on cutting your fabric; basic construction methods, e.g. seam finishes, correct pressing for your fabric, sewing darts, invisible, lapped and fly zips, waist bands and facings, machine buttonholes and using interfacings; construction: collar and revere construction, lining jackets and coats using the bagging out method, pocket construction, trouser fitting and handling special fabrics e.g. velvet, leather, sheers and silk. All construction methods will be completely up to date enabling a project to be completed quickly., , By the end of this course you should be able to:, - Select and use appropriate settings on a sewing machine., - Sew and neaten a seam., - Use sewing techniques as required by your garment pattern. , - Use tools and equipment safely, , There is no set 'homework', but to get the most out of the course, you are welcome to do further work at home., There is no qualification for this course., Those who wish to learn the craft from scratch and those who wish to brush up on their skills. Students may join at any point.
