This course aims to teach you to move beyond the automatic settings on your SLR camera and learn to compose and take good photographs using manual settings. The course is structured to form a firm basis for understanding the skills and techniques associated with designing and taking good, interesting and exciting photographs in a variety of contexts, and developing the knowledge to critique your own work effectively. There will be individual and group tuition and discussion Where possible location work will be done. Please note that as well Thursday evening classes this course includes some Saturday morning location shoots. NB There will be no darkroom work on this course. Session dates as follows:, 15 Sept course introduction; 22 Sept Maidstone location night shoot; 29 Sept Maidstone night shoot; SAT 1 Oct: Location shoot West Malling; 6 Oct Classroom based discussion; 13 Oct Night shoot Maidstone; 20 Oct; Classroom based discussion; SAT 29 Oct Location shoot Leeds Castle; 3 Nov Studio flash lighting; 10 Nov Classroom based discussion session; SAT19 Nov Location shoot Buckmore Park go-karting; 24 Nov Studio flash lighting and portrait shoot; 1 Dec Classroom based discussion session; SAT 3rd Location shoot Dickens Festival Rochester; 8 Dec Studio portrait session; 15 Dec Location night shoot Christmas lights; 5 Jan Classroom based discussion session; SAT 7 Jan location shoot West Malling; 10 Jan Final classroom based session., For those with limited experience and the more experienced photographer. You should be able to use the basics on your camera and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance / develop technical and personal skills.,

Entry requirements

A Single Lens Reflex (SLR) digital/manual camera with various lenses and accessories. A tripod, film if needed, notebook and pen. Please don't purchase any books or new equipment until you have consulted with the tutor. You will have to pay the cost of outside processing.
