You will work with your tutor to develop an Individual Learning Plan based on your interests and needs. The course will help you to develop confidence and skills in reading writing speaking and listening. You can work at your own pace and can enter for Entry level or levels 1 or 2 certificates in Functional Skills maths when your tutor feels you are ready. The course activities and materials that you will use are interesting and have a practical context. Working alongside your fellow learners in pairs or small groups is encouraged. The Functional Skills maths qualification at levels 1 and 2 is recognised by employers and at level 2 is an equivalent skill level to GCSE maths on the Qualifications and Curriculum Framework. What experience or skills do I need to join this course? No qualifications are required but regular attendance of at least 80% is required from you. You will be invited to attend an induction session where you will meet the Co-ordinator and then be enrolled on to a course that is suitable for you. What is the course about? The course will be Functional maths which means developing the skills needed for everyday life and work. This will/may include: Core Skills (adding subtracting multiplying and dividing); ratios percentages decimals and fractions; metric measurement and perimeter area and volume calculations; use of formulae statistics and everyday charts and graphs for problem solving. For the first session you will need: Pen and paper, A folder to store your work. Additional costs and/or resources: Tea/coffee money varying depending on venue. How will I know how I am getting on? Learners who regularly complete homework have the greatest success rates. Your progress and achievements will be recognised and recorded regularly in a number of ways. For example: Being able to apply your skills in everyday life. Achievement of targets in your individual learning plan. Feedback from your tutor.
