Students who are most successful on this course are those who have a genuine interest in the written and spoken word, both in terms of analysing others’ texts and creating their own. You will need at least a ‘C’ grade in GCSE English Language and English Literature. A grade ‘B’ for GCSE English Language is strongly recommended. You will be building on your innate knowledge of the English language. The course requires you to understand and analyse how language effects are achieved and then replicate them in your own original writing. At A2 you will be assessed via two 21⁄2 hour exams worth 40% each and one piece of ‘non-exam assessment’: a language investigation worth the remaining 20%. The topics for A2 revisit those from AS, encouraging greater range and depth of study.
