With the other learners in your class, you will cover a range of mathematical topics including:NumberAlgebraRatio, proportion and rates of changeGeometry and measuresProbabilityStatisticsYou will learn to apply your maths skills to everyday situations and will develop skills to make you more confident with numbers and mathematical concepts.GCSE Maths is split into two tiers. Grades achievable at Foundation level will be 5 to 1, equivalent to C to G. The grades achievable at Higher will be 9 to 4 equivalent to grades A* to D. The classroom teaching will be aimed at Foundation Level. There may be an opportunity for learners to be entered for the Higher tier subject to certain achievements however this will require significant additional study and attendance at further workshops. Details and requirements will be provided by tutors. A variety of learning activities will be used on this course, including tutor presentation and demonstration, practical application of skills, individual and group work, discussions, Q&A, internet research, individual research and project work. Where relevant, your learning will enable you to develop skills and knowledge required for work. There may be vocational, specialist guest speakers or employers invited to share their skills and experience. Regular home study will be necessary to successfully complete this course. You will be supported to develop good study skills This is a vocational course leading to a qualification, and the cost of it is subsidised by public funding. You will be required to attend every session and complete all of the necessary coursework/assignments or exams by the given deadlines. Name: GCSE Maths Qualification title: GCSE in Mathematics B Qualification type: Assessment Examination dates will be given to you by your tutor at the start of the course and will fall outside the scheduled class times. These are national exams and the dates are fixed. You must ensure you can attend on the exam dates provided. Home study, research and preparation for assessment are also required to be completed in your own time during the course. Assignments/Course work: No formally assessed coursework although regular homework will be set and marked. Examination(s): 3 exam papers; 1 non- calculator (1hr 30 mins) and 2 with a calculator (both 1hr 30mins). There may be an opportunity for learners to be entered for the Higher tier subject to certain achievements however this will require significant additional study and attendance at further workshops. Details and requirements will be provided by tutors and final decisions of suitability will be at the discretion of the Service. You will negotiate a Personal Learning Plan with your tutor identifying the areas you need to develop; this will be reviewed at regular intervals.
