Reading is a means of thinking with another persons mind. it forces you to stretch your own. If you dont need to be convinced that reading is a valuable activity but wish to extend yourself by extending what you read this course will provide you with the tools for the job. You will learn how to read critically widely and with informed judgement some of the most influential and thought provoking texts ever written in English. You will follow the two AS modules of the AS specification. You will study in depth poetry prose and drama texts based on a common theme related to the social and historical context in which they were produced. You will learn how to respond to texts that are unfamiliar and challenging. You will produce coursework following an area of study over which you will have some choice.
