The course consists of four units offered over two years (six terms). It provides the final stage of working towards achieving counsellor practitioner status and will enable successful learners to counsel individual clients within a range of supervised, structured settings. Unit 1, Humanistic Theory or Psychodynamic Theory, will provide learners with an overview of the key concepts of humanistic or psychodynamic theory and the chance to practice and explore the opportunities and challenges of working with clients in their chosen model. Madatory Unit 2, Embarking on Practice, will provide learners with a solid theoretical background in either the humanistic or psychodynamic approach and to use this theoretical knowledge as they begin their client work within a supervised counselling placement. Unit 3, Counselling Practicum, requires learners to demonstrate an understanding of their client work, how they operate within an ethical framework, their use of counselling supervision and an ability to reflect upon and evaluate their self-awareness as a result of clinical practice. Unit 4, Counselling in Context Option, will provide learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding required for a special area of practice. Units 3 & 4 are optional units, othe options may be available.
