This 1 year course will teach students all aspects of motorcycle repair and maintenance. Students will learn the basic health and safety practices needed when working with workshop tools and equipment and they will also be introduced to the motorcycle repair industry which will highlight future career paths. The students will learn the principles of motorcycle engine construction and components including cooling and lubrication systems. The student will learn how to carry out routine inspections of motorcycle braking systems, wheel and tyre checks and also gain an understanding of the different types of motorcycles and how they are constructed. The student will learn the principles of motorcycle transmission systems (gearbox), and the basic principles of motorcycle electrical and electronic systems (lights, charging, starting systems). Also included will be basic washing and cleaning a motorcycle for resale and future technologies such as low carbon vehicles/electric vehicles.
