ESOL Study Programme Entry 3

This is a Pre Intermediate level full time course for 15 19 year olds whose first language is not English. It will develop learners English language skills and introduce them to a variety of vocational areas so that they can decide where their vocational future lies. This is the 4th stage of our ESOL PLUS courses. The course focuses on English language acquisition within topic based contexts that are relevant to young people e.g. sport leisure drama and popular culture. Development of speaking listening reading and writing skills is our priority so that learners can feel confident in communicating and responding appropriately in real life situations. Study skills are developed to allow learners to progress to higher level training. Citizenship Geography and History are embedded into the course. A wide range of classroom activities is used including communication games project work audio visual and computer based learning. In the second semester learners have the opportunity to experience vocational training in the colleges top class training facilities. They attend lessons in a variety of vocational areas including Construction Health and Beauty ICT Sport Motor Vehicle and Engineering. All learners are assessed for numeracy and IT and placed on Edexcel Functional Maths and ICT courses at the appropriate level. This course also provides learners with Work Skills. All students have a personal tutor and will have access to a varied tutorial and enrichment programme covering issues relevant to young people and a number of interesting and challenging day trips and activities.
