During their time with us students learn how to plan and undertake surveys of rivers, coastal shingle, woodland and farmland. They undertake practical management to enhance habitats for target species and learn about the laws that protect them. This practical experience is all backed up through classroom theory taught by knowledgeable and supportive staff. We attract a wide range of people onto our countryside courses including school leavers and mature learners. On campus, students have access to a 220 hectare estate where many activities are carried out. This outdoor learning space provides a great platform for students to enhance their knowledge further. The estate offers its own hedgerows, grassland, rivers, woodland and farmland habitats for you to explore, with little egrets, kingfishers, sparrowhawks, badgers, bullfinches, smooth newts, emperor dragonflies and water shrews all on site for students to discover and enjoy. Our countryside qualifications also involve a lot of external trips and visits where students get the opportunity to learn in different environments.
