It provides an introduction to countryside management, though class based sessions but has an emphasis on developing practical skills. Areas of Study Units of study include: Ecology of Trees, Techniques in Surveying Habitats, Machinery maintenance, Tractor Driving, Estate Skills, Environmental Business. You will also undertake functional skills in English, an industry recognised qualification. You will also have the opportunity to undertake specialist NPTC or LANTRA courses, which are run through our short courses department. Work Placements You will develop practical and life skills through working with countryside rangers at a wildlife site of your choice. You are required to complete a minimum of 150 hours and this experience is assessed as part of the course. Assessment is by a portfolio of evidence you complete whilst on placement. Method of Assessment Each of the units includes pass, merit and distinction criteria. Assessment is through a wide range of methods including practical observation, oral questioning, giving presentations and formal written assessments. After Completion of Your Course... Upon successful completion of your Diploma, you may wish to progress to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Countryside Management. Alternatively you may prefer to look for employment as an assistant countryside ranger or work within estate management.
