The focus of this workshop is on pronunciation. Using a variety of methods, such as, songs and rhymes, handcraft, audio-visual and online resources, the teaching covers a basic vocabulary of numbers, greetings and family members. In addition, the workshop introduces some fascinating facets of the Chinese language, including the origin of Chinese characters and how to draw them following a few simple rules. Upon completion, the students should be able to pronounce Chinese words in Pinyin, count and write numbers 1-99, speak survival Chinese with the help of a glossary and use some well known online resources. The workshop should also demonstrate that Chinese is not only fun but in many aspect easier to learn than English!
