Soft furnishing - workshop - beginners/improvers

On this course you will learn or develop your knowledge of a variety of soft furnishing techniques that may include how to make cushions, blinds, curtains, tiebacks and pelmets, as appropriate to your starting point and project choice. You will be shown the correct way to measure and estimate fabrics, layout, cutting, making-up, pattern matching and hand sewing. In 10 weeks a beginner could expect to complete a piped cushion with a zip or button fastening, and a small lined roman blind. Learners with more experience will work on more complex projects of their choice.

Entry requirements

You will need to provide all your own materials for the class, and further guidance will be provided by the course tutor, as applicable. Beginners will need to bring at least one metre of soft furnishing fabric of your choice to the first lesson, as well as basic sewing kit to include: pins, assorted hand sewing needles, thread to match your fabric, expanding tape measure, stitch un-picker and fabric cutting out scissors. If you are buying all these items from scratch, the approximate overall cost will be £30-40.
