Be inspired, this course is designed to develop the creative, conceptual, experimental and technical skills needed within the Graphic Design industry. The course encourages you to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to briefs. Students will undertake a comprehensive programme covering all aspects of graphic design and related areas. You will develop idea-led solutions for print based and electronic products, explore typography, layout, packaging, branding, advertising and photography and this will be backed up with a focus on traditional art and design techniques. You will also look at the historical and contextual approaches to art and design. You'll be encouraged to develop your visual language through creative experimentation whist developing your knowledge of industry standard software. In your first year you will be introduced to the fundamentals of Graphic design, the focus is on core skills, building on visual research skills, exploring how to use different media and techniques within your work and developing computer and software skills in our dedicated Mac suites. You will participate in photography and screen-printing workshops and will be encouraged to use a range of traditional art techniques alongside the latest technologies within your work. Based in the Creative Arts Building, you'll have the opportunity to become inspired by other creative students as well as the staff's professional and industry experience. You'll be encouraged to participate on live briefs and design competitions with an aim to prepare you for a career within the graphic design industry. Students are encouraged to take up independent work-related opportunities alongside their course to develop their professional, employability and enterprise skills and there are also extra-curricular activities including visits to galleries, studios and industry professional masterclasses.
