Access to Humanities and Social Science

The Access to HE Diploma is a full level 3 programme for learners who wish to gain entry to university but do not hold the necessary level 3 qualifications (such as A levels or BTEC ND), have not been in education for a number of years or are seeking a career change. The Access to Humanities and Social Sciences programme provides a thorough preparation for a range of degree subjects including psychology; social work; criminology; English and history. All students will cover two units from the following subject areas: English literature; psychology; history and sociology. Students will then decide whether they wish to pursue a more focused humanities or social science strand and undertake further units in: literature; sociology; history; social policy and psychology, dependent on their university requirements. The course consists of nineteen individual units that are made up of thirteen subject units and six study skills units including the extended project, which requires a student devised and led essay. The study skills units are an integral part of the course and will develop your academic reading, writing and research skills that are essential for university study. This course will provide you with a good grounding in a range of academic subjects and enable you to have flexibility in your university choices.
