The engineering industry are keen to recruit apprentices as a way of increasing the number of younger people joining the sector, which has a predominately older workforce. Apprenticeship are also seen as a way to fill the ‘skills gaps’ that have been identified in engineering by developing the skills of new and existing employees. Advanced apprenticeships offer a clear progression route for people working in engineering to follow.
