Who is the course for? Mathematics underpins almost every aspect of modern life. Its applications extend from space exploration to the National Lottery. During the Second World War, the mathematics that was done at Bletchley Park saved countless lives on both sides. You will enjoy this challenging course if you like solving problems in a logical manner, applying mathematical theories to real life situations and constructing rigorous mathematical arguments. You will develop your ability to reason logically, to construct mathematical proofs and to use mathematics as an effective means of communication. What can it lead to? AS Mathematics is regarded as a good indication of potential by both employers and universities. What will I study? You'll cover three modules in the year, Core Maths 1, Core Maths 2 and either Statistics 1 or Mechanics 1. Students who are also studying Physics as one of their AS subjects will study the Mechanics 1 module; all other students will study the Statistics 1 module.
