It consists of assessment in the workplace and no teaching as such. However, working with the assessor will create learning opportunities, reflection and self-improvement. Attendance at college will be required to sit online exam sessions; this may require the candidate to take a small amount of time off work. The qualification is centred on complex diagnosis and repair methods in key areas such as Engine, Brakes, Suspension, Steering, Transmission & Electrical systems. The candidate will build a portfolio of evidence based on practical activities in the workplace, and will also prove theory, knowledge and understanding of this workplace evidence and at exam sittings. Assessment will include workplace evidence & observation.Work based visits for observation, and portfolio building sessions, in conjunction with self study.Candidates could progress onto the Diploma for Automotive Master Technicians Level 4, or the Certificate in Automotive Retail Management (Level 5). Candidates can also progress onto the Auotmotive F-Gas Course, Level 2 Award in Electrically Propelled Vehicle Hazard Management and Level 2 Award in Routine Maintenance Activities on Electrically Propelled Vehicles.
