This programme is a good introduction to the principle of accountancy, combined with the essential skills required for anyone wanting to understand the challenges and risks of starting a new business. You will need good attention to detail, prioritisation and organisation skills. This programme includes the AAT Level 1 Award in Accounting (Access) which introduces students to the basic concepts of finance. It is designed to help younger and less experienced students gain the skills and confidence to build a career in business or accountancy. It will also give the grounding in theory required to be better prepared to progress to Level 3. Among the elements covered in Access are: -Maths for use in a business environment -Essential accounting techniques -Creating business documents, what they mean and the legislation surrounding them -Accounting in a professional environment, the behaviour and professionalism required of an AAT member At Level 2, students will be introduced to a broad range of skills and will gain an accounting qualification that is recognised internationally. The units covered will include: -Basic accounting concepts and the double entry ledger system -Costing, which covers how costs are apportioned and used to inform business decisions -A computerised element will involve experience of managing accounts on a computerised software package called Sage, experience of which is often required by prospective employers -Introduction to payroll -Spreadsheets -Business communication and office working skills -Working effectively in Finance & Accounting -Computerised payroll Work experience placements will require students to plan and organise their own placement and travel arrangements.
