This is a new, one year programme for learners who are aged 19 and above with moderate learning disabilities/difficulties. The programme will be taught at our new Hive Centre which is on the College House site in Compton, just south of Winchester. Learners will be working at Entry 3 or Level 1 according to their ability and prior experience. The programme is designed to give a flavour of working on an enterprise activity while maintaining the development of English, Maths & IT and personal and social skills. The programme will run over 4 days and cover the following topics: Horticulture Catering Craft Skills Business and Enterprise skills Embedded within this programme will be team working, confidence building, managing money in relation to a small business budget, marketing and advertising. We will be undertaking a range of activities linked to seasonal times of the year to support the development of enterprise projects. Learners will be encouraged to develop their practical skills alongside developing appropriate business and promotional skills.Learners will be assessed as the programme progresses and they build up a portfolio of evidence. All assessment will take place in class at the appropriate time. The classes will be largely practical and there will be lots of opportunities to develop and discover new skills. The programme will be a careful balance of informal and formal teaching, group work and practical sessions in the brand new, fully equipped kitchen, work shop and business suite.. Advantage will be taken of the greenhouse and extensive garden at College House to nurture the horticultural projects.On completion of the course students may wish to progress to another course at the college.
