The Foundation Course Year 1 of 2

You will study a programme based on developing life and personal skills, literacy, communication, numeracy and ICT skills. The programme is a mixture of practical and classroom based activities. You will also study independent living and home management skills: cooking, laundry, bed making, shopping, road safety and independent travel skills. Students will be encouraged to follow a healthy lifestyle supported by a range of social and leisure activities. You may also be able to study a variety of practical subjects which include: -Music and dance -Sport and fitness -Drama -Cookery -Shopping -Art and crafts -Woodwork / Multi-skills -Basic gardening -Environment and community The programme will also involve researching and participating in the world of work with a range of group project activities and a work experience project week. If appropriate, in Year Two a short work experience project week may be arranged. You will also be able to undertake two activity weeks in Year One and Year Two. This will give you the opportunity to gain personal and team work skills, whilst trying new leisure and outdoor activities. Please note you will be responsible for the cost of all off-site activities (these may amount to approximately 350 per year).You will be assessed before and during your first few weeks of the College programme. This will be continually updated and discussed with you in order to set the targets for you to work towards. You will be taught by tutors who are experienced in teaching students with severe/moderate learning difficulties. Regular tutorials between yourself and your personal tutor will be held to discuss your progress and what you would like to learn whilst on the programme.
