The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science consists of 18 different units to study, delivered largely through practical work, investigations, visits and trips; six core units and 12 specialist units. In the first year, you will study the core units, plus Mathematics and Statistics. A similar pattern of three core units and six specialist units is followed in the second year. If you are successful you will have gained a Level 3 qualification that is equivalent to three different A-Level science subjects. Each unit is assessed through various types coursework. Two of the units are externally assessed by the exam board. During the course you will take units on: Fundamentals of Science, Working in the Science Industry, Scientific Investigation, Scientific Practical Techniques, Perceptions of Science, Chemical Laboratory Techniques, Physiology of Human Body Systems, Electric circuits and their Application, Microbiological Techniques, Genetics and Genetic Engineering, Practical Chemical Analysis, Organic Chemistry.
