Professional session musicians, producers and programmers will guide you through the creative processes common in today's music industry. Using the department's professional, industry-standard equipment, you will learn to perform, compose, record, sequence and sample. In addition to this, you will undergo a programme of ear training and be encouraged to underpin your practical work through the continual development of music theory. Units include: Listening skills; improvisation; performance techniques; music theory and harmony; sound recording techniques; composition and music in context. At the end of the course you will stage a major public performance project.

Students are responsible for the upkeep of their instruments, including strings, leads, tuners, sticks, reeds etc. Drummers must bring sticks/brushes, and may be asked to provide snare drums, cymbals, bass drum pedals etc. You will may wish to supply your own headphones (tutors can recommend specific models). USB memory sticks are also recommended, and can be bought from the college shop. Optional educational visits are charged at cost as and when they arise, your Course Leader will inform you of these.
