The A2 course will involve the study of a German literary text and German history, and you will develop essay-writing and research skills as part of this. You will also be introduced to advanced German grammar, which you will apply through the translation of English texts into German. A further element will be engagement with the language of argument and debate, and you will be expected to express and explain your own opinions clearly, and defend them when challenged. AS Level topics will be explored in more detail, and additional A2 themes will also be covered (customs, traditions, beliefs and religion; national and international events: past, present and future; literature and the arts). The study programme is supplemented with weekly oral classes in small groups with a native speaker to practise discussion skills. You will also study independently in the Languages Self Access Centre, which is fully equipped with books, study guides, magazines, and computer-assisted learning resources. A study visit to Berlin will further enhance your experience and learning.
