The course has five main units that are covered over a 34 week period. Learners will start with manufacturing of a tool and then move on to the motor vehicle specialist units. The first specialist unit is engine technology which will cover the technical side of modern systems. It includes an understanding of modern diesel and fuel injection system. The next unit relates to vehicle chassis and includes; braking; steering and suspension and will reflect the work learners will be undertaking in industry. The transmission unit includes the removal of complex units and the correct procedure for refitting them. Electrical systems form an important part of modern vehicle technology and the final unit goes into depth. Due to the nature of this unit a good knowledge of maths is important.
