Further Mathematics is a second A Level (or AS) in Mathematics and is a subject for those who enjoy Mathematics and have achieved at least a Grade A in GCSE Maths. It gives you the opportunity to study all the applied Maths options Statistics Mechanics and Decision Maths in greater depth. In addition three extra units of Pure Maths are offered. This implies that the time commitment to Mathematics during the A Level programme is doubled so it is essential that you really do enjoy and are good at Maths. Students taking Further Mathematics will need to complete twelve modules altogether (six for A Level Mathematics and six for Further Mathematics). After successful completion of the programme students will achieve A Level qualifications in both Mathematics and Further Mathematics i.e. two A Level subjects. Students wishing to take AS Further Mathematics will need to complete nine modules (six for Mathematics A Level and three for Further Mathematics AS Level) and at the end they will be awarded an A Level qualification in Mathematics and AS Level in Further Mathematics.
