Apprenticeships allow 16 plus year olds to start work and earn a wage while learning new skills that lead to nationally recognised qualifications. Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers in the industry so they offer a structured programme that takes Apprentices through the skills needed to do a job well. Most of an Apprentices training takes place on the job but they will also have to complete off-the-job training within the College.If you want to combine employment in the Travel and Tourism sector with acquiring a qualification you can undertake an Apprenticeship. If you undertake an Apprenticeship you will combine working and receiving a wage with study towards a qualification. You will normally attend Middlesbrough College one day a week whilst gaining valuable practical experience of the skills required in the workplace and earning money. You will undertake an Apprenticeship Framework whereby you combine an NVQ a Technical Certificate or Diploma (Underpinning Knowledge) and Functional Skills.The NVQ is an assessment of your practical skills carried out in the workplace whilst the other elements are achieved through attendance at the College. Before being enrolled onto an Apprenticeship Programme at Middlesbrough College you will need to have a firm offer of employment secured. The College may be able to assist you with finding potential employers. Apprenticeship Framework in Travel Services at Level 2 is offered.The apprentice National Minimum Wage applies to all 16 to 18 year old apprentices and to those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. If the apprentice is aged 19 and / or has completed the first year of their Apprenticeship the employer must pay the National Minimum Wage appropriate for their age.
