Concentrating on helping you understand both the theoretical and practical aspects of animal conservation and biodiversity, this qualification will prepare you for a wide variety of career opportunities within this important sector. You will examine in detail practical conservation management and complete a final year project on a biodiversity theme of your choice. At the end of the programme you will have gained a comprehensive grounding in the issues surrounding this subject and be able to effectively apply the principles learnt. Course Content Year 1: Principles of animal science; Principles of animal husbandry; Principles of conservation; Wildlife welfare and conservation ethics; A choice of either: Concepts in animal behaviour or Principles of management (land-based). Year 2: Breeding management and genetics; Exotic collection management; Global biodiversity and conservation issues; Industrial experience; Principles of practical conservation management and technology; Research skills; A choice of either: Animal health; Comparative anatomy adaptations and evolution or Project management; Year 3: Conservation and tourism; Animal/human conflict resolution; Advanced monitoring and habitat assessment; Geographic information systems for the animal sciences; Current issues for the animal sciences; Honours project for the animal sciences; A choice of either: Applied animal nutrition or Behavioural ecology. Successful students may progress onto a related MSc or PhD programme, or into a wide range of management and research posts within the industry.
