The AQA specification is followed at York College. Four units are studied in the first year. Two are compulsory core units and two are optional units selected by the department. The core Physical Geography unit is: Rivers, Floods and Management. The core Human Geography unit is: Population Change. The optional Physical Geography unit is: Hot Desert Environments and Their Margins. The optional Human Geography unit is: Health Issues. In the second year the breadth of study is less than in the first year, with three rather than four units (Ecosystems: Change and Challenge, World Cities, Plate Tectonics and Associated Hazards). However the depth of study is much greater and each topic must be learnt in far more detail. See website for full information.
