What will I do during this apprenticeship? This apprenticeship covers a broad range of occupational roles. You may be working in a school, college or university with teachers, lecturers and other staff to develop apparatus, equipment and resources for research and experimentation, as well as supporting teachers of science and technical learning. Working in maintenance, you will be developing and advising requirements for apparatus, resources and equipment to be used for experimental research and new designs with their associated maintenance. Apprenticeships are all about learning on the job - getting paid while you get qualified. You'll learn from your employer while you're at work, you will usually come in to college for a day a week to learn about the technical side of your job and get support from your Tutors. You will need to do a number of qualifications including the NVQ Level 3 in Laboratory Technician and a Technical Certificate. You'll also get the chance to do Functional Skills, though you might not have to if you already have good GCSE grades for maths and English. How will I be assessed? We will assess your practical skills and observe you at work. A personal assessor will visit you in your workplace to review your progress and make sure you are on target to get your qualifications.
