Access courses are designed as a stepping stone to enable motivated, enthusiastic people to progress on to Higher Education. This is ideal for those who want to re-train or re-direct their lives to realise their dreams of working professionally in the health and social care sector. You will receive high quality teaching by subject specialists in a range of subject areas that will fully prepare you for studying at university level. The course is challenging and requires full attendance and absolute commitment to allow you to fully maximise your opportunities; you will though have access to a range of support mechanisms to enable you to develop the key academic competencies to contribute towards successful progression. How do you study? You will timetabled for 2 days a week over a 35 week period, with sessions running from 9am until 4.30pm. The units that you will study will come from the core subject area, and are detailed in the more info box. These can be achieved at a Pass, Merit or Distinction Level. Along with your core subject units, you will study a range of subjects that build and prepare you for academic study at university level, such as: Developing Your Research Skills, Academic Writing and Examination Techniques & Practices. Overall, you will complete 20 units which correlate to 60 credits for full achievement of the Access to HE Diploma. Help and support Cornwall College, Saltash has a justifiably enviable reputation for the level of pastoral care and academic support that their students receive. You will have a dedicated personal tutor who will support your learning journey throughout the academic year, and you will be given a great deal of support in preparing your UCAS application and personal statement.
