Get Ready for GCSE English

UPDATED 20160608 10:16:22

Is this the right course for me? You may need a GCSE for work or study purposes, but not have studied for a while and feel a bit rusty. Perhaps you have studied for GCSE English recently, but not achieved the grade you need. This course will prepare you for entry on to the one year fast track GCSE course starting in September 2016. Please note that this course will use the new specification - for first testing in June 2017. What will I learn? You will learn how to create an original story using an image to stimulate ideas, and how to approach the analysis of a fictional text. There will also be an opportunity to prepare a short talk on a topic of your choice, supported by your classmates. You will learn what to expect from a one year GCSE course, including the amount of work needed to succeed. The course will include an assessment of your skills and you will be given advice regarding your next steps. How will I learn? Classroom activities will include individual and small group work using games, activities, tasks, online learning resources and teacher-led activities. You will need to do at least one hour's homework each week. What do I need to bring to the classes? Please bring a pen, A4 paper, a ring binder folder and a highlighter pen. What can I do next? If you have completed this course and your skills are at the right level, you will be able to enrol on one of the GCSE English Language courses starting in September 2016. Can I talk to someone about my course before I start? The Curriculum Development Organiser for English is Jo Wellings.
