Apprenticeships consist of different qualifications, each of which recognises the achievement of a specific set of skills, enhanced knowledge or level of attainment in a particular subject area. The Apprenticeship includes Learners taking the City and Guilds route for their technical certificate will work towards the Level 3 Certificate in Engineering in their chosen bias, in this case Mechanical Engineering. Unlike the BTEC route, the City and Guilds qualifications are assessed both across theory based learning, culminating in a series of exams, as well as by inspection of practical test pieces produced in the Learning Unlimited Derby workshops plus Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT. Apprentices also develop qualities and skills needed for success in learning and life in Employee Rights & Responsibilities and Personal Learning & Thinking Skills. Suitable job roles for this Apprenticeship include, Supporting, motivating and challenging pupils who are underachieving, supporting pupils who do not have English as their first language, supporting pupils to overcome social and emotional problems and leading a team and identifying opportunities for training and development. Typical duties include Machining, CNC Machining, Machine Tool Setting, Fitting and Assembly, Pipe Fitting and Assembly, Composite Manufacture Engineering, Mechanical Overhaul and Test and also Spring Making.
