Who is the course for: Students who demonstrate a real commitment to hard work on this course will stand a good chance of succeeding in a highly competitive field. Course Content: Year 1: Graphic design Layout skills, image manipulation, typography, illustration, publishing, visual identity/branding and the design process. IT Introduction to the industry standard creative suite, desktop publishing, computer aided design, introduction to software packages (Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator). Visual studies Drawing, painting, printmaking, photography. Contextual studies Analysis of popular culture, contemporary design, history of design, including business studies and communication. Year 2: Students will further their skills in illustration, typography, photography, publishing, annimation and contextual studies. They will be introduced to processes such as visualising, storyboards, concept boards, packaging design and promotion. Students will be required to respond to a range of breifs, gaining insight into music packaging, advertising and website design. In addition students are given the opportunity to participate in live breifs, work placements and UK and national design competitions. All students are required to complete print and online portfolios to enable them to apply to universities and go into employment. Basic theories of psychology will be investigated in relation to advertising strategies; this will also incorporate social economic factors, degrees or awareness and consumer perceptions. Study Methods: How is the course assessed: The course is based on continuous assessment over two years, with a final major project and Diploma show at the end of the second year.
