To provide a specialist work-related qualification in furniture, upholstery, finishing furniture and wood machining.To prepare you for employment and/or to provide career development opportunities for those already in work.The course is made up of units covering furniture finishing methods (hand and spray finishing), upholstery, soft furnishings, mattress making, modern and traditional upholstery and wood machining.The content of the course is very diverse and challenging to prepare you for work in the industry. From measuring, cutting, sewing of fabrics to customer or company requirements usually within a workshop. Items may include cushions, curtains and similar products. Use of hand and power tools, possibly machinery under supervision. Add padding and soft covers to furniture. Cover or re-cover items with fabric or other materials, occasionally repairing furniture. Apprentices may work in a production environment or a craft workshop. Some may specialise in one aspect, e.g. padding sofa arms, others may complete entire items.
