The course will provide learners with a secure understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children or young people in school environments. There will be weekly workshops across the year and workplace assessment.This course is for teaching assistants, learning support assistants, parent support advisors, learning mentors or those in a similar role at Level 3. It is recommended that learners be employed in a school environment as they need to show competence in both knowledge and skills at Level 3. Volunteers need substantial hours and the school's support to be sure of demonstrating that they are working with a degree of independence and responsibility.The course is made up of mandatory and optional units which are based on knowledge and skills. To gain the qualification learners will need to achieve 44 credits. A total of 40 credits being achieved at Level 3 or above. A total of 32 credits will come from the mandatory units and then learners will need to obtain a minimum of 12 credits from the optional units.Mandatory units:-*Understand child and young person development.*Understand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people.*Communication and professional relationships with children and young people.*Schools as organisations.*Support learning activities.*Promote children and young people's positive behaviour.*Develop professional relationships with children, young people and adults.*Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people.*Support assessment for learning.*Engage in personal development in health, social care or children's and young people's settings.*Support children and young people's health and safety.English and Maths are essential for those working in an educational environment, so all learners may undertake functional skills while on the programme.
