AS/A2 Law involves the study of the English Legal System and Criminal Law. It is a dynamic subject, relevant to all aspects of modern life and will enable you to develop an analytical and critical approach to the application of legal principles. Your ability to read, digest and extract information will be greatly enhanced by the course and will prove invaluable in further areas of study and employment.Students who are successful in this subject demonstrate an ability to analyse complex written material, learn and understand legal principles and offer a critical evaluation of legal concepts. A significant amount of independent wider reading is also required.What is Law? How do we know what the Law is? Where is Law created? How are disputes settled in the courts? What powers of arrest do the police have? Who are the lawyers and what do they do? Who sentences criminals and why? What is a criminal offence and what must be proved for the offence of murder and manslaughter? What is the difference between robbery and burglary or GBH and ABH? If you are interested in issues like these then AS/A level Law will give you the opportunity to explore them in depth and may be your gateway to studying Law at degree level or to a wide range of other subjects and careers.

Students may then progress onto the 2nd year of study, sitting 2 further examinations to complete their study to A2 level.
