Having an A-level in Computer Science is highly regarded when you venture into employment or to university; A-level Computer Science opens you up to a world of possibility, with so many avenues and sectors you can get into. Computer Science A-level will prepare you for one of the many courses available at university including computing, software, engineering, business and computing or computing graphics, amongst over 4000 others! As computers are such an integral part of the workplace in society, people with A-level Computer Science skills are in extremely high demand. Amongst the many career possibilities that are available to you with A-level Computer Science include software engineering, systems analysis, computer programming, animation and many more. Alternatively, there are a number of students that go into careers unrelated to computing but the skills they have gained in AS or A level Computer Science are still utilised due to increasing technological advances. The basis of this course is computation, both in theory and practice. Computer Science is an academic subject that requires you to be systematic and logical, and so often lends itself to the more technically minded student. Teaching and learning is achieved through a combination of theory and practical work. The main programming language we teach through is C#, other languages are also taught such as SQL and Assembly. This gives you a head-start, placing you above the competition and is a great segue into other languages like C++ and Java. Computer Science is the A-level course for you if you are interested in learning how to program computers and gaining a deeper understanding of the technical aspects of computer systems. Programming is fundamental to A-level Computer Science; programs can be as simple as adding two numbers or complex searching algorithms, such as binary tree traversal.
