Developing a Website for a Business

UPDATED 20160519 13:59:34

The overall aim of this course is to develop the skills, and an understanding of how, to develop a website for a business. You may be considering outsourcing your website or wanting to find out if it is viable to build it yourself. To explore this fully the course will also include practical exercises to build your first website using template-driven online services that require a minimum of technical knowledge. This introductory course has similar content to the sister E-Commerce course, but takes a more general viewpoint. It will be of interest to those with a business idea based around providing a service or selling a low volume of unique products, though we will look at creating an online store as well. The course provides an introduction to the following: 1. Creating a proposal for your business's website - what benefits you hope to gain from it, the functionality required, constraints on the project and so on. 2. Identifying the key functionality provided by modern, large websites. 3. Various options for creating a website from simple and low cost to highly customised and expensive. 4. Building a simple site for your business using a free online template-based site builder. You will customise its look, add a blog, organise content into sections and more. 5. How to modify, adjust and prepare images for the site using a free online image editor. 6. Understanding internet connection methods and how to make the most out of internet browsers 7. Using Google Analytics to analyse your website's traffic. 8. Pay Per Click advertising with Google AdWords. 9. The basics of Search Engine Optimisation. 10. An introduction to social media. Using Facebook, Twitter and blogs to promote your company.
