Jazz Singing Fundamentals - Creative Singing

The second course in this new series of Jazz Singing Fundamentals Courses at Richmond Jazz School will offer a solid foundation to understanding jazz compositions, jazz melody and provide the first steps to engaging with crea-tive singing and improvisation. The mystery and wonder of harmony will reveal itself as you experience a range of ways to engage creatively with the art of improvisation and further consolidate your jazz musicianship The sessions will develop creative singing skills, building on understanding the fundamentals of jazz voice, working with common jazz forms and songs and will introduce practical material to explore as a group while observing important relationships with the underpinning theory. You will be introduced to creative and practical activities to be explored and developed with appropriately challenging activities to allow for differing levels of experience. Various themes will be explored throughout the course such as: - singing melodically - working with jazz rhythm - creating and developing simple phrases - understanding and 'feeling' simple forms in jazz - practical approaches to harmony and theory You will also be given ideas and materials for 'follow on' activities and practi-cal material to further develop the pieces and your playing after the course. There may be a performance opportunity at RJS events and activities.
