This course will guide you through a series of practical watercolour techniques and exercises to give you a good grounding in this versatile medium. There will be a number of short exercises on the first day where you will explore: - Paint behaviour when applied in different ways - Colour mixing with primary colours - Simple and more complex washes - Tonality through dilution and washes - Different papers - Drawing with a brush On the second day you will build on the skills learnt so far and explore more complex exercises involving small still-life setups and working from landscape photographs. If the weather allows us on day two and three we might do some painterly sketching outside and then finish them in the studio. At the end of the course you will be able to compose and create a watercolour using wet-on-dry and wet on wet techniques and apply washes. Friendly advice will be given on an individual basis throughout the course.
