20th Century European History - Introduction

The aim of this 6 week course is to provide an introduction to Twentieth Century European history by focusing on specific key events as well as the people and ideologies that shaped them. Each week we will look at events right across the continent from a mixture of social, cultural, political and economic historic stand points in order to give a broader flavour and help us understand how these formed Europe as it is today. In the potential year of the EU Referendum we will also consider the ideas that formed the current European Union and how it has changed over time. - The fall of the Great Powers - Diplomacy, Nationalism & the House of Cards 1900 - 1917 - The rise of Communism - Russian Revolution & its lasting impact - New Rome & The Thousand Year Reich - Fascist Europe 1919 - 39 - The Spanish Civil War - A crucible of 20th Century ideology - Europe Divided - the annexation of Eastern & Central Europe 1945 - 1968 (the Warsaw Pact till the Prague Spring) - A New Europe: 1956-1991 - Decolonisation, Integration & Reunification Any additional course information can be asked through our course information lines.

Name: 20th Century European History - Introduction Qualification title: Non regulated provision, Level 1, History Qualification type: Other regulated/accredited qualification Assessment Assessment Method: Informal. There are no official assessments for this course "How much homework will I need to do outside of class?" There is no formal homework outside class but new material and resources will be constantly uploaded to Moodle and students are encouraged to read on the subject for their own pleasure. "What will happen if I miss a class?" Should you miss a class, please inform the tutor. "Are there any other costs involved" No "Is there a reading list?" There is no formal reading though books, programmes and exhibitions will be brought up during the course for you to take notes should you wish.
